Security checks at Heydar Aliyev International Airport will become faster and more efficient with new millimeter wave technology

08 April 2025

Efficiency and compliance with international security check standards at Heydar Aliyev International Airport will be significantly improved, making the passenger screening process faster and more comfortable. An agreement was signed at the Passenger Terminal Expo 2025 in Madrid between Azerbaijan Airlines CJSC and Rohde & Schwarz, one of the world leading suppliers for security technology.

Under the agreement, four modern QPS201 security scanners will be installed at the airport to improve passenger flow management and optimize screening procedures. These systems will enable faster and more accurate screenings, while their high throughput capacity will speed up security processes.

The scanners combine the highest level of detection capabilities with efficient and intuitive procedures that benefit both passengers and staff. They employ innovative millimeter-wave technology and AI-based algorithms to meet all regulatory requirements for detecting prohibited items while minimizing false alarm rates. This technology ensures that security measures are both effective and user-friendly, enhancing the overall passenger experience. The scanners are also suited for passengers with reduced mobility, ensuring a unimpeded passage. The system's software capability allows it to adapt to future security requirements, which will enable continuous modernization of the Heydar Aliyev International Airport's security infrastructure.

QPS201 scanners are already successfully deployed at leading airports worldwide, including Frankfurt, London, Osaka, and Denver. Rohde & Schwarz has served the aviation industry around the world since 2015. The scanners are approved by the European Civil Aviation Conference (ECAC), the US Transport Security Administration (TSA), and many other national agencies.
